Mühltal / Ober-Ramstadt. Dr. Thomas Jakob is the new Director of the Medical Technology Business Unit of Wirthwein AG with simultaneous overall responsibility for Riegler GmbH & Co. KG. Thus, Wirthwein AG, whose wholly-owned subsidiary is Riegler GmbH & Co KG, is also transferring the successfully practiced structure to date from the other business areas – automotive, rail, energy and domestic appliances – to medical technology.
The 46 years old graduate chemist obtained his doctorate in the year 2000 at the Bayreuth University in the field of macromolecular chemistry and supplemented his technical education with a management studies course at the Business School in St. Gallen. He started his professional career as assistant to the executive board at Rehau AG + Co. in Rehau. After various stations, including as injection molding application engineer in the area of medical technology, he was appointed as Research and Development Director at Raumedic AG in Helmbrechts. Raumedic AG has been an independent company in the Rehau Group since 2004. Dr. Jakob was a member of the management committee and authorized signatory since 2009.

Dr. Thomas Jakob started a new career challenge at the globally active Wirthwein AG company on June 1, 2016. As new Director of the Medical Technology Business Unit, he is responsible for the desired internationalization and increase of the manufacturing depth for the Riegler GmbH & Co. KG subsidiary company. Riegler specializes in plastics injection molding in the area of medical technology.
With around 300 employees, Riegler GmbH & Co. KG produces plastic components for various applications in the areas of medical technology, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and cosmetics. There is a manufacturing area of more than 11,000 square meters available at three sites; a large part of this is used for clean rooms according to ISO 14644-1, Class 7. Riegler sees itself as a full service supplier and is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 and 13485. The design and engineering includes the toolmaking, manufacture and assembly – also in the clean room – and sophisticated logistics for the portfolio of the Wirthwein subsidiary company. The Wirthwein Group has around 3,650 employees in 20 companies worldwide in the business areas of automotive, rail, energy, domestic appliances, medical technology and interior finishing.
Future objectives
Dr. Thomas Jakob sees the decades of experience of the employees with the focus points of medical technology and diagnostics, the focusing on customer-specific developments and the extensive range of technology at Riegler GmbH & Co. KG as the perfect bases for further future growth. The new Business Unit Director stresses that particularly the highly motivated team is the basis for the development of the "Everything from one source" philosophy and the future desired further internationalization.
